Eddie Daniels ~ First Gymnopedie

One of my beliefs in all music is that you have to possess an understanding of past music to not only work in the present, but to project into the future. Eddie Daniels does this with ease. His stellar clarinet playing does not seem to limit what he can do with the instrument and applicable interpretations. He also respects the past and what it contains. You can find Videos of him playing Mozart as well as Benny Goodman tunes from the 1930s. I've selected two pieces for presentation.

He and Gary Burton made a CD "Benny Rides Again" 1992. It features his interpretations of the Goodman trio and quartet sounds. It swings as it should and gets your blood pumping in time with the music.

Eric Satie: A French composer wrote the First Gymnopedie published in the magazine La Musique des familles in 1888. Satie's music is a fascinating listening experience as there was nothing to match it during that era. I have two versions of the selection and it contains elements that work well with jazz, hence this selection by Mr. Daniels. He presents us with a beautiful version that stimulates your thought process. It makes sense in all worlds. Creativity makes us breathe.

So, my friends a journey into the cosmos of music can awaken something in each of us to keep us fresh and pertinent in the ever changing world. This is the temporary end of 2020 Jazz with Mr, RAS. I'll add more music later in the year.
