Rene Maria

A piano, a bass and a singer, what could be better? As you listen to these three with Rene Maria singing, and the cats on Piano (John Chin) and Bass (Elias Bailey) it is a perfect example of the Jazz many of us listened to over the years. The expressions all three show us tells a story of musical enjoyment. I suspect that if we were all around in 2120 we’d be grooving right along with them. Everybody is competent and they complement one another. I used to play music like this, and it was soooo satisfactory. You’d get that special feeling of musical perfection only during special moments.

"What we learned from the past leads us into the future. Virginia native and Atlanta resident Rene Maria is a recognizable, fairly unpredictable jazz vocalist who -- depending on her mood -- can be quirky and playful one minute, but bluesy or soulful the next. The singer, who is blessed with an impressive range, has a variety of influences She  shows her appreciation of Betty Carter on some of her quirkier performances, while her more bluesy and soulful leanings underscore her fondness of  Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington and Nancy Wilson."
