Karrin Allyson

Karrin Allyson is a five-time Grammy nominee for her music. The New York Times called Karrin: "A singer with a feline touch and impeccable intonation. I listen to her music when I want to stimulate my senses in music appreciation. Allyson sings in English, French, Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish. The second selection is in Portuguese and I find it most sensuous. Her enunciation makes listening to her a delightful pleasure.

Her singing on the "Shadow of Your Smile" is indeed romantic. It makes one perhaps remember an extraordinary love relationship that did in fact contain all the superlatives of love. I surmise this was a rehearsal, but holy cow, did you watch and hear what was going on? The musicians worked with her and were all in the game. It was a beautiful arrangement. If you were with someone special and danced to that song it would be perfect night. The Latin tempo made it work even better.

From an album of the same name "Imagina," is short selection that Karrin sings in Portuguese much to my delight. The gentle sway of music from Brasil allows us to slip south of the border and hear how others respond as they interpret Latin music. The Bossa Nova captured me years ago and it never left my soul. Eliane Elias swings to "Desafinado" on this blog. This song, Imagina, with a South America touch by Karrin gives two selections to explore the creative magic.

Music from other cultures embracing Jazz tenants exists worldwide. I made a song list on YouTube several years ago featuring artists from different South American countries. Different beats and syncopation with Jazz in mind work and expand your knowledge base on music. It is an important part of this blog.

From a live show in 2013 Karrin sings in both Portuguese and English. It fully captures the South American Bossa Nova beat. Her body language as she plays tells a nice story. The English words also add to the song as you sway to the tempo. It’s part of Karrin’s feline touch. I’m sure women appreciate a song of this nature.

Dreaming and dreaming, I’m dreaming my whole life away.
Dreaming and dreaming and not caring what people say
Everyone says that I’m lazy, dreamy silent and strange . . .
Susannah McCorkle Lyrics
