I’m opening with Freddie Hubbard’s “Here’s That Rainy Day.”
All you have to do is sit back, sip a quality beverage and let the music reach
deep inside of you and it all makes sense. You have to feel music, let it run
through your veins and fill your heart and mind. After you accomplish this
music never leaves you. Then it’s yours for life and beyond. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FPX26uWXLk Here's That Rainy Day
This exquisite rendition of “Rainy Day” by Freddie Hubbard is otherworldly. The guitar accompaniment by George Benson was equally exquisite. Ron
Carter played Bass. In your jazz life it’s important to have songs that help
you make it through everyday life. Recorded in the 1970s for our pleasure it still resonates today. Freddie died in 2008, from a heart attack but
the gift of music he left us is indeed a treasure. I saw him in 1980 at Dante's in
Hollywood, CA. He sat in with trombonist Bill Watrous (who once played gag gig
on the Gong Show). It was the
stellar jazz club of the era, but closed in 1988. It was one of those electric nights with my wife as we took in the sounds. We can bring back the moment when we play it.
